International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association
Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association of Southern Africa (HPBASA)
Brief History of the Chapter
The Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association of South Africa was formed in 2005. The membership of the association is multidisciplinary, including surgeons, gastroenterologists, pathologists, radiologists and oncologists. The association hosts an annual meeting and was the host for the 9th Congress of the European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (E-AHPBA) 12-16 April, 2011 in Cape Town. It also successfully bid for the 16th IHPBA World Congress that will take place in Cape Town 12-17 May 2024. In 2021 the association expanded from a national to a regional chapter when Namibia, Zimbabwe and Botswana joined South Africa to form the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association of Southern Africa (HPBASA).
